Zoolights (2024)

Thanks to Loreen for sharing her holiday spirit from last year’s visit to the Calgary Zoo to see the lights! 🐫🐒🦩🦌

We had the BEST time at the Calgary Zoo Lights for my son's birthday, thanks to McDonald's (where my son works) for hooking us up with tickets for only $5 each instead of the regular price! 🙌 But it was FREEZIN at -30°C, so we bundled up and packed into our SUV for the adventure.

Now, fun fact: it was my husband's first time at the zoo, and we got totally lost trying to find the parking lot! Our first attempt dropped us off on the side by St. Patrick's Island, and it was SO quiet and empty in the parking lot that we realized "NOPE! WRONG SPOT!" 😅 After a bit of driving around, we finally found the right spot and were greeted with Christmas carols as we entered.

But before diving into the lights, we made a quick bathroom stop (because it was THAT cold). We then wandered around the zoo, soaking in all the gorgeous light displays. My teen boys, of course, decided to wear "cool" clothes instead of warm ones, so guess who was stuck carrying scarves, mittens, hand warmers, and toques in my backpack? Yep, me! 😂 By the end, I was completely out of supplies (which I prepared for them beforehand)—thankfully, everyone was cozy enough to enjoy the lights, and even the dinosaurs 🦖joined the fun! Not expecting much other than the light show, we all enjoyed the axe throwing section of the zoo, where I realized that I should just stick to pen and paper for work, I could not work on an axe even if my life depended on it.

We wrapped up the night feeling grateful for these special family events.

Check out the 2025 Zoolights at the Calgary Zoo from November 14, 2025 to January 4, 2026.🎄
