Gradma Higa’s Sanpin Cha

Sanpin Cha (さんぴん茶) translates as Jasmine Tea, and this tea with the cute pink packaging and Grandma Higa holding a jasmine flower is famously from Okinawa.

“Chinese tea leaves that have been slightly fermented are what goes into making sanpin cha.”[1] This is different from most Jasmine teas which are usually made from green tea.

The flavour of Sanpin Cha is lighter, sweeter, and smoother because of the slightly fermented (oolong) leaves. It has a light golden colour and a very gentle jasmine scent. This is a pleasant tea that would be equally good hot or iced.

It was very nice to try this. I also recommend the following article for more information: The Difference between Sanpin tea and Jasmine tea. [2]
