Tea and Coffee Egyptian Style
No travel write-up would be complete without sharing some of the food and beverages I had on my latest trip to Egypt.
Egyptian breakfast - pickled peppers, cheese, fried potatoes, pita, ful with salad added and ta’miyya.
Coffee shops in Qurna, a kanaka (for brewing coffee), alqahwat (coffee) wa leban (with milk), Egyptian tea - served very strong (often with the leaves in the glass) generally sweet, with the addition of mint. Note that yansoon (anise tea) is served to you whenever you say you aren’t feeling well. Although, when I was in Siwa and had an upset stomach, the hotel owner brewed me some lemongrass tea, which she grew herself.
