Why I Love BTS 💜

I started watching K-Dramas about seven years ago. The first one I watched was ‘Memories of Alhambra’. I was hooked. I don’t really like American TV, and Canadian TV can be limited, but the storylines in Korean television and movies are so different from anything else I had seen. I’m still a big fan and watch a lot of Korean shows. Some of my recent favourites include ‘The Blank Menu for You’ starring Chef Choi Kang-rok (hilarious), and ‘Rented in Finland’.

Well my love for K-Dramas grew into a natural extension for K-Pop, and of course Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) is the best there is. But, it is when I got to learn more about the members and see their struggles and progress over the years that I started to really care for them. My heart ached when they went into the military for their service - being a former Naval Officer myself. But with them all safely completing their service they have been extra busy preparing for their comeback. Their new album ‘Arirang’ has just been released (March 20, 2026) and while the members have matured, their performances just seem to have gotten even better (if that was even possible). They are heading out soon on their World Tour (but unfortunately only one venue in Canada - in Toronto).

While waiting for this comeback I got to watch Kim Seok-jin (Jin) on ‘Kian’s Bizarre B&B’ which is hilarious - and see the launch of his solo albums ‘Happy’ and ‘Echo’. I love Jin’s voice - his solo song from 2018, Epiphany, still makes my heart beat fast. I have to say that his siren call in Like Animals - from the new album Arirang, equally gives me chills! He has come a long way and deserves the title ‘Worldwide Handsome’.

But, it is really Kim Nam-joon who has captured my heart. ❤️

RM (Rap Monster) is the leader of BTS and is an exceptional person. Not only does he have an IQ of 148, but while leading BTS to fame, he also completed a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University, and got an MBA in Advertising and Media from Hanyang Cyber University. In 2022, on his solo album ‘Indigo’, Kim Nam-joon released a song called Wild Flower. The first time I heard this song I cried uncontrollably for a good half hour. It is still perhaps the most poignant song I have ever heard, and it makes me choke up every time.

This beautiful man has also given impressive speeches in English to the United Nations|UNICEF in 2018, and an incredible speech about culture to APEC in 2025. Not only has RM had an incredibly challenging but ultimately hugely successful career, but his poise and character are amazing to witness. This goup is breaking cultural boundaries globally and anyone who hasn’t taken the time to learn about them is missing out. This is the most amazing musical group to have ever graced this planet!

I send love and best wishes to BTS and to Kim Nam-joon in this next journey of their career. Know that I and ARMY 💜are always on your side. I Love You BTS!
