The Grand Wait

It was supposed to already be open when I started working there in 2014. The Grand Egyptian Museum has had delay after delay, and costs have ballooned. It was supposed to finally, fully open in July this year — and grand announcements were made. Hopes were high. I’ve been back to Egypt several times since I worked on the museum, and every time I looked anxiously to see if it would be open.

The recent warmongering of Israel has once again put a stop to the July opening and it is now being delayed until the last quarter of 2025. I was so looking forward to visiting this fall, and seeing colleagues and the final displays.

Let’s hope for a better year and some peace! My thoughts are with the people of Egypt and Palestine and Iran as they live through this horror.
