Adzuki Tea

The June 2026 Sakuraco tea is a delightful tisane from Hokkaido. This tea is often prized for its caffeine-free and roasted flavour. It is sometimes used in Traditional Eastern Medicine. “This tea is also used in Japan to rid the body of toxins that have gathered in the body by reducing water retention.” [1]

Like all Sakuraco teas, the tea was presented in individual tea bags (opened by me so I can see the beans).

Sakuraco’s description:

Hokkaido Adzuki Tea

Zenyakuno (Tottori)

Adzuki red beans are roasted to create this smooth infusion that is naturally caffeine-free and rich in antioxidants, offering a soothing cup suited for daily wellness.

They recommend steeping the tea from 3-5 minutes.

You can see from my photos above that the packaging is lovely, and it comes with a beautiful traditional image. The bag was opened and added to my gaiwan so I could see the finely crushed roasted adzuki beans. After steeping for 3 minutes, the infusion was strained and produced this golden pink liquor.

The aroma is a fusion of beans with hints of roasting, and the flavour is smooth, calm, slightly sweet and reminiscent of a lightly brewed hojicha.

I would definitely buy this tea again, for days when I want something caffeine-free. I drank it on a late June afternoon looking out my window on a rainy day, and it felt perfect.
