Haikus for Nature IX

AWA

September 2025

Following are the haikus I have written in September as part of my ‘What’s Your 60?’ challenge. I have committed to complete the following challenges in 2025 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA):

  • Write 60 nature-based haikus

  • Submit 60 new observations to iNaturalist

  • Walk Outdoors 60 km/month

If you wish to sponsor my efforts you can make a tax-deductible donation to Alberta Wilderness Association.

Lady Beetle 🐞*

Clinging to blossom

Viewing the world upside-down

Bringing me good luck

Wildfires

Acrid Smoke

Wildfires are Blazing

Lungs Choking!

Blood Moon

Red orb shining bright

Lovely, yet daunting also

Filling hearts with dread

Seasonal Palette

Summer’s palette gives

way to Fall’s muted colours

Season’s tones changing

Guardian

A guardian gull

Watches over the harbour

With discerning eyes

Gull in Heraklion harbour, Crete

Following is another lovely haiku I recently discovered that I wished to share. 🍂

September **

It’s Late September,
with withering leaves falling
- and recollections.
