Zhangping Shui Xian
First Prize Roasted - Spring 2025 - Light Charcoal Roast - by Zeng Puyu
In preparation for my upcoming Tea Tour in southern China, I’ve been trying to learn about and taste as many Chinese teas as I can.
I recently purchased this Producer Set from Pastleaf Tea. I have already written about the gift I received from Pastleaf when I purchased this set. [1] Today’s brew was the First Prize charcoal roast by Zeng Puyu.[2] I haven’t tried the Osmanthus or Orchid Fragranced versions yet (that were included in the set), but I will share my thoughts about them once I have had the chance to try them.
“Her tea cakes are also compressed a bit tighter in the wooden moulds during the pressing step. Her roasted teas have also been recognised, with her Spring 2025 roasted tea winning First Prize in this year’s production skills competition.”
My Notes: 1/2 cake (loosened) brewed in my gaiwan at 95C for 3 minutes
Type - Oolong
Region - Southern Fujian
Dry Leaves - light to dark brown, red and green leaves
Liquor - the colour of amber - very clear; smooth, sweet taste with no bitterness
Fragrance - honey and lychee fruit
Wet Leaves - larger leaves and buds, shiny
This is a wonderful tea. I could drink this all day long. We all have our preferences though and I personally preferred the Zhangping Shui Xian roasted by Wang Longbiao. [1] Just My Two Cents!
[1] See my review of another Zhangping Shui Xian roasted by Wang Longbiao - A delightful surprise.
